Dancing in the aisles
Brendan Cole: Live and Unjudged Blackpool Opera House
He may have called his show 'Live and Unjudged' but if the score cards were out Brendan Cole would certainly get top marks.
From the moment the 'bad boy of ballroom' stormed onto stage for the opening number – a dramatic Paso Doble with bull fighting capes twirling frantically – the crowd in the Opera House were in awe of his effortless, fancy footwork.
There was hardly a bead of sweat on his face as the smooth operator glided across the dance floor, charming us with his cheeky smile, references to "Strictly" and the
occasional bottom wiggle.
Far from being one man's excuse to be self-indulgent, the show was a fun celebration of dance and music with five professional dancers including Scott Cole (Brendan's brother – proving rhythm runs in the Cole family's genes), an
impressive live band and two talented singers thrown into the mix.
Shimming in sequins and often with nothing but feathers to cover their modesty, the dancers had nearly as many costume changes as on the TV show which made
Brendan a star.
Moments of magic included an enchanting Viennese Waltz to
Whitney Houston's 'I Have Nothing', a Cha Cha with chairs, a red hot Argentine Tango and an
energetic Quickstep.
Even Brendan's solo singing session was surprisingly enjoyable.
Thoughtful audience interaction - a question and answer session and a lesson in a few Salsa steps – went down well.
Tempting the audience to jump to their feet, clap to the beats and dance in the aisles, the show was a true toe-tapping terpsichorean
triumph.
