STAFF and skaters at the Pleasure Beach arena are torn over who to support Sunday’s Dancing on Ice grand final.

For all three of the professional skates involved are former stars of the attraction’s Hot Ice show.

It is the third time Dan Whiston has got through to the final of the popular ITV1 show – and both previous times he has won!

He lifted the trophy with former Coronation Street star Gaynor Faye in 2006, and with his childhood friend, Bispham-born actress Hayley Tamaddon, in 2010.

And he hopes to make it a hat-trick tomorrow with partner Olympic gymnast Beth Tweddle.

Dan starred in 2006, Brianne Delcourt who is skating in the final with Eastenders actor Matt Lapinksas was in Hot Ice in 2005, and Jenna Nicole Smith (nee Harrison), dancing with boxer Luke Campbell started in 2012.

However, the children and staff at Brian House Children’s Hospice, in Bispham, can’t wait to see Dan in action. They sent him a colourful “good luck” poster, which they made.

Shirley Morgan, press and communications manager at the hospice, said: “Dan is a valued supporter of Brian House and the children wanted to make him something special, so he knows we are all behind him.

“There will be lots of us glued to the television screens – we would love to see him win.”

Dan’s dad Bill said he was grateful for all the support Dan was getting. The family will head to Dan’s sister’s house on Sunday to watch and cheer him on.

Bill added: “He works really hard and we are so proud of how well he has done.

“We always tune in on a Sunday night and give him our own appraisal!

“We support him in any way we can. And Dan is so grateful for all the support he gets from his home town, it really does spur him on. He loves Blackpool.”

See Dan in action on ITV1 at 7pm on Sunday.
