Comedy is king at the Grand
Godber is to direct the 25th anniversary production of his Olivier Award-winning comedy Up 'N' Under from Monday to Saturday, September 13 to 18 as part of Blackpool Grand Theatre's new programme.
Starring Abi Titmus as a gym instructor attempting to kick an unruly bunch of amateur Rugby League misfits into touch in just eight short weeks, Up 'N' Under was a stage and film hit when first produced.
Also just announced is the welcome return of Alan Ayckbourn to the Grand with his ingenious comedy Bedroom Farce from October 4 to 9 starring Hollywood husband and wife Juliet Mills (Wild at Heart, Billy Wilder's Avanti!, Nanny and the Professor) and Maxwell Caulfield (Grease 2, The Colbys, Dynasty) with a full supporting cast.
Add to that the absurd comedy Love's A Luxury starring Ben Freeman (Emmerdale's Scott Windsor), Richard Walsh (London's Burning's Sicknote) and Jennifer Biddall (Hollyoaks) from September 20 to 25, Richard O'Brien's Rocky Horror Show starring West End leading man David Bedella as Frank 'n' Furter and Michael Starke (Brookside's Sinbad, Coronation Street) at the Narrator from October 18 to 23, the family musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat starring Keith Jack (Any Dream Will Do runner up) from October 25 to 30 and John Godber's riotous classroom drama Teechers starring Zoe Lister (Hollyoaks) from November 24 to 27.
Also added to the programme are Black Vegas on Wednesday and Thursday August 18 and 19 featuring Lotus Circle, Karima Francis and John Gomm; a special performance from the Royal Marines Band Service on Sunday August 29; the 50s and 60 show Born to Rock and Roll on Tuesday November 9 starring Marti Wilde, Eden Kane and Jet Harris; blues master Rod Demick on Friday November 12 and the magical Beyond the Barricade at Christmas on Monday December 13 featuring music from all the great shows and movies of the festive season sung by past principal performers from Les Misrables.
Blackpool Grand also welcomes back ballet from The Russian State Ballet & Orchestra of Siberia from Friday to Sunday January 7 to 9 with a trio of thrilling productions - Don Quixote, The Nutcracker and Swan Lake.
