Carl gets his royal call up

Like his fellow Fylde Coast entertainers Blackpool comedian Carl Schofield missed out on a place in the Royal Variety Performance line-up – but has now received a royal invitation of his own.

Colourful Carl, who recently completed another successful summer season at Layton Institute, has been invited to take part in a special Help For Heroes concert at St James's Palace on December 3 in the presence of Princess Anne.

He will be joining the likes of Bruce Forsyth, Amanda Holden, Wendy Craig and Katherine Jenkins on the show.

He was spotted for the show by its producer Duggie Squires whilst rehearsing for the Layton summer show.

"They will be getting a squeaky clean version of my act – I wouldn't want to upset anyone on an occasion like that," said Carl.

He admitted it will be the first time he has been inside a royal palace.

"I stood outside Buckingham Palace quite a few times in full uniform when I was in the Coldstream Guards but I've never been invited one inside before," he said.
