Boots' buddy tells all

Thornton pop star Little Boots is one of three celebrities featured in the friendship special March issue of Cosmopolitan which went on sale today.

Little Boots – real name Victoria Hesketh –was asked what it's really like when fame comes calling and her friend Annie Sheppard (who came up with the Little Boots name) was asked to respond.

Annie (pictured with Victoria) says: "I've known Vic since our first day at Leeds Uni. We went out, got drunk and have been great friends ever since.

"Our friendship hasn't changed since Vic became famous, except for the amount of time we spend together due to her busy schedule. She missed my last birthday party because she was away working but a few days later she threw another party in her garden.

"Vic has helped me through loads of dark times. She always makes sense of things.

" I came up with the name Little Boots.

"We met up in the pub and she told me things were going well so she needed to think of a name for herself. I remembered a film I'd watched the day before. It was Caligula, starring a young Helen Mirren. Caligula is also known as 'Little Boots' - I suggested that as a name and Vic loved it!"

In response Vic says: "Annie is a great friend who I clicked with from day one. I love spending time with her and recently invited her to join me at an Annie Lennox tribute dinner.

"We're both big fans so it was great to see her perform. I got a lot out of that night having my Annie there to share it with.

"Over the years we've developed a strong friendship, along with our own jokes and catchphrases that sound like nonsense to anyone else. It's hard when I'm on tour as we don't get to spend as much time together as we'd like."
