Believin' in hit show

THE all-singing, all-dancing, brand new, smash-hit production Don't Stop Believin' premieres at Blackpool Grand Theatre from tonight but you can catch a sneak look at what's her until next week at the Switch On Party Show tomorrow.

The cast, who are performing the tribute to smash hit television series Glee and other gleeful tunes, will be featured from 6.30pm to 6.45pm as part of the Blackpool Illuminations Switch on extravaganza – before heading back to the Grand for the full show.

Anyone who does not have an official wristband will not be allowed entry to the main switch-on arena - and these have now all been allocated. But there is another chance to view the show by heading to St Chad's headland, where a big screen will show all the performances – and the Switch-On – live.

Spectators at the screen will also get the chance to watch the Illuminations as they spring to life along the promenade (from approximately 9pm).

The arena will open from 3pm with entertainment from 6pm and Blackpool Illuminations will shine for 66 nights until November 7.

Don't Stop Believin' is an exciting new show which opens for its world premiere at the Grand tonight featuring the sensational songs from the Golden Globe award-winning TV show Glee and other gleeful tunes!

Featuring all the hits you love from Don't Stop Believin', Gold Digger and Proud Mary to Somebody to Love, Keep Holding On and a few surprises the show has been in rehearsal in London for three weeks before having the finishing touches put to the production in Blackpool this week.

Directed and staged by Carole Todd (who choreographed hit shows Dreamboats & Petticoats and Dancing in the Streets) it is, she says "a celebration of the magic and music of Glee – and other songs done in the style of the show."

Although the characters are not allowed to be named after the TV show's familiar faces, Carole says there won't be any problems spotting who is who.

"It's not done as a story it's done as a concert but fans of the show will get exactly what they expect and know exactly who is who," she said. "I did a lot of research when I was putting it all together so you will recognise the characters and hear all the songs – together with other material which will presented in a Glee style mash up so it's just a carbon copy of what's on television."

To add to the authenticity she brought in three guest choreographers who specialise in street dance, Latin and hip hop.

"It will give it a different look all the way through plus it is giving new young talent a chance to have their work showcased in a major production," said Carole.

Although full of praise for the young cast of Don't Stop Believin' she says she will be keeping an eye on them during their Blackpool stay.

They have worked incredibly hard on this show but I did my first ever season run on South Pier so I know what the temptations are – and what stories they might concoct to explain why they are tired!"
