Are you hungry for a chef's job?

Sir Alan Sugar's search for an apprentice may have ended, but the chef being dubbed Sirloin Allan Croft, is just starting out on his.

This Allan is head chef at The Ship at Elswick – a Highest Quality Assured Taste Lancashire venue.

The popular eatery is searching for its own apprentice, who can potentially become its chef de partie.

The Ship at Elswick's young apprentice will work alongside the professional team of chefs in the dining pub's kitchen, learning skills that can only be acquired at the hotplate and developing their talent in a hands-on environment.

This represents a huge career opportunity for whoever is chosen and vital experience to add to a CV. It is an ideal chance for a Level 3 catering student to hone their skills and add to their expertise.

The Ship's apprentice search will start with the dining pub accepting applications.

CVs can be handed in, or posted, for the attention of John Bentley, general manager, The Ship at Elswick, High Street, Elswick.

Applications will then be whittled down to five potential candidates who will take part in a cook-off.

The young chef judged to have produced the best dish, in the most competent manner, will be the winner. If they have also demonstrated an ability to stand the heat of working in a busy kitchen, they will be appointed in a chef de partie capacity.

"This is a golden opportunity to shine and progress within the catering and hospitality industry with a venue that has earned a reputation for the quality of its food," said John Bentley. "We are looking for talented, dedicated young chefs who really want to learn more, listen to advice and build a reputation for putting excellence on a plate. The one who demonstrates the greatest hunger for catering will probably prove to be the Ship's new apprentice."

The closing date for initial applications is June 30 and the cook offs will take place on a date after that. For more details contact John Bentley on (01995) 672777 or e-mail a CV to mail@theshipa
