THE JOHNNY CASH ROADSHOW Lowther Pavilion Johnny Cash tribute featuring Clive John as the Man In Black and Jill Schoonjans as June.

THE singer-songwriter, affectionately known as The Man In Black, and renowned for classic tracks such as Walk The Line, San Quentin, Fulsom Prison Blues, Ring of Fire and A Boy Named Sue — receives a glittering tribute at the Lowther Pavilion tonight.

The Johnny Cash Roadshow features Clive John performing Johnny’s hits from the 1950s to 2002, along with a giant video projection showing moments from the great man’s life.

The tribute, which also features Jill Schonjans as Johnny’s wife June Carter, has been touring for two-and-a-half years and introduced many younger fans to live versions of the music they possibly first heard through the 2005 Hollywood film Walk The Line.

“Johnny just had a very special presence about him, an individual uniqueness and an aura,” said Clive. “He constantly toured, doing 300 shows a year for 40 years. So everywhere we go, there is usually someone who comes up to say they have seen him perform.”

Saturday’s show starts at 7.30pm and tickets cost £17.50 for adults and £16.50 for concessions. Details from the box office on (01253) 794221.
