I would just like to thank everyone who was involved with the charity auction to raise funds for The Kampala Children's
Centre, Uganda, on June 6.
It was truly inspirational to see how so many members of the community and St Thomas' Church, pulled together to
contribute to this fantastic night.
I would also like to mention all the local businesses (The Sandcastle, Westair,
Blackpool Zoo,
Blackpool Rock Company, Print-It, and many more) who donated items for the auction, it would not have been possible without their generous giving.
I think it speaks volumes of the caring nature of so many Blackpool residents and businesses alike that, in the midst of a recession, we managed to raise almost £2000 for The Kampala Children's Centre, a loving home for 1,000 orphans of the Ugandan civil war and from AIDS affected families.
On June 22, nine Blackpool volunteers will be visiting Kampala and helping out in any way possible.
We still welcome donations of sports equipment, educational materials and anything else which might be useful in helping improve these children's prospects and aspirations.
Thank you once again to everyone who really got into the spirit of the fantastic auction evening, I have been overwhelmed,

Organists are not in fashion
I notice that organ concerts have returned to the North Pier. When I read this I was quite
surprised as I thought the pier was going to move with the times.
It seems the pier is just doing the same old out-dated seaside
entertainment.
Organ concerts are very old fashioned. Would you ever see this on Britain's got Talent? I do not think so nor do I think The
Batchelors show is an attraction.
It's a joke. They have been working in working mens clubs and now we are expected to pay high ticket prices for acts we can see around the clubs for free.
I am middle-aged myself but for heaven's sake Blackpool North Pier need to get moving with the times if we are to attract tourism.

It makes me wonder how safe flights with Jet2 are?
I have booked a few flights for later in the year hope they don't decide to pack their bags too.
Ryanair should have been kept at all costs, that's what Blackpool needed.

Who said the £10 passenger charge wouldn't have any
effect.
Say what you like but there are many potential
passengers like myself who won't pay this £10 and will travel to Manchester or
Liverpool instead.

Another nail in the coffin for the bus stop of the skies. Get the bulldozers in and plan a development that actually benefits Blackpool.
Mr_Osato

I fly from Blackpool next week to Majorca and had a choice of departure airport with the alternative being Manchester.
Whilst I disagree with the £10 fee for each passenger I certainly would not choose to drive 50 miles down the
motorway to Manchester just to avoid it. You would have to be an idiot to spend the extra money in either a taxi or
driving yourself and paying for parking at Manchester.

Flight from Manchester Cost (4 day long weekend)

Train - £25 Return per person
Taxi - at least £90
Drive - Petrol £15, Parking £25 Total - £40
Time - Extra 2 hours each way of your lives

Flight from Blackpool

Parking - £10 enforced supplement per person
Time - 20 minutes to get there

Therefore Blackpool is cheaper on all accounts for a family of 4 or less

£25 return to Manchester? Fares are usually around £15 - less any family/student railcard discounts.

20 mins to Blackpool Airport? Well, from Fleetwood its more like 40 mins taking into account roadworks. Add to that another 20 mins driving round the badly signed car park and overspill field trying to find a parking space.

Unable to find a space last week and therefore being forced to park in the short stay car park (paying £53 for 28 hours), I'll be getting the train direct into Manchester airport from now on. Half hour longer in theory but cheaper and less stressful.
