A VICTORY for people power is being claimed after Coun Simon Renwick voted against recommendations to close the pools.
The cabinet member for culture and tourism, who represents Medlar with Wesham, was the only member to vote against taking recommendations, including closing St Annes and Kirkham pool, forward to the full council.

He wanted a decision on the pool issue to be delayed for further work to be done on other options.

Coun Liz Oades, who presents Kirkham and as an independent councillor, says it is a victory for people power.

She said: "People power has worked. He is worried about his vote.

"I would congratulate everybody for the work they have done.

"I hope they will keep on with the good work and join our march."

A march to protest about the proposed closure of St Annes and Kirkham pools will take place on Saturday, March 1 in St Annes from 11am.

Coun Renwick says he will work to save Kirkham Baths between now and March 3.

He said: "I have always felt you can't leave the borough without a provision for swimming.

"I will be looking at how we can save Kirkham Baths.

"Keeping St Annes pool is a bridge too far."
