A WESHAM park has won an award for the third year running.
Wesham Jubilee Doorstep Green, on the corner of Derby Road and Park Lane, has now received a Green Pennant award every year since it opened.
The Countryside Agency awards Green Flags and Green Pennants each year to recognise and reward the best green spaces across the UK.
Doorstep Greens are one of the Agency's initiatives and are funded by £12.89m of National Lottery money from the Big Lottery Fund.
Wesham opened its Doorstep Green in 2003 after being granted £47,000 of lottery money for the venture and receiving support from local residents and businesses.
The park has flowers, shrubs, trees, seating made from recycled carrier bags, play equipment and a wildlife area as well as one of the few dedicated dog walking areas in the North West.
The Doorstep Green committee, a team of volunteers, look after the area and will receive a Green Pennant and certificate for all their hard work and the judges gave special praise for the wildlife garden.
Geoff Dixon is chairman of the Doorstep Green committee and said: "I am delighted we have received another Green Pennant.
"We have been officially open for three years and have got one every year.
"The Doorstep Green is so well used and we and Wesham Community Pride Trust work hard to keep it nice.
"It's a community effort and businesses, the Lions, the Rotary and others also help us."
Coun Simon Renwick, who represents Medlar-with-Wesham, is pleased with the news and said: "I am delighted that Wesham has again won the Green Pennant and congratulate all the hard work of Geoff Dixon and Ann Whitby and the rest of the Doorstep Green committee."
