KIRKHAM is to get a state-of-the-art play area - after Fylde Borough Council was awarded a £200,000 lottery grant.
The Big Lottery Funding will improve facilities across the borough with the £75,000 going to Kirkham and Wesham.
A teen zone will be created in Kirkham to combat the lack of facilities for teenagers in the area.
Barnfield all-weather pitch at the Memorial Gardens has been proposed as the site for the play area and it is hoped work can start on the zone by Easter next year.
Local councillors are pleased with the news and Coun Liz Oades, who represents Kirkham, said: "I brought this fund to the attention of the council and I am delighted to see Kirkham is going to get some of the funding.
"This really needs doing in Kirkham - we need a park to be proud of."
Coun Simon Renwick, cabinet member for Tourism and Culture and a representative of Wesham, said: "I'm delighted we have been granted the money and I think this will have a significant impact on Kirkham.
"Barnfield will get a multi-use games area teen zone and improvements to facilities in Wesham as well means young people's facilities in rural Fylde will be greatly improved."
The remaining lottery money will provide an inclusive play area at Lowther Gardens, Lytham and play workers for the borough.
It is now hoped a Friends of Memorial Gardens can be set up for Kirkham and Coun Oades said: "I'd like to see something set up like ParkView4U and anyone wishing to come forward to serve on the committee I would welcome that.
"Kirkham in Bloom is involved in the work going on there and the town council is and any members of the public who would like to join us should get in touch."
Anyone who would like to get involved should contact Coun Oades on (01772) 671343 or Coun Elaine Silverwood on (01772) 683444.
