DIRECTOR of rugby Mark Nelson described Fylde's second-half display as "almost perfect" after watching his side avenge their Christmas defeat by Preston Grasshoppers.
And he was pleased to see winger Nick Royle say his farewells to the Woodlands in style with two tries.

Nelson told The Gazette: "We think that was Nick's last game here. He needs to move on now and test himself at a higher level.

"The payi
ng public had a field day, It was nip and tuck in the first half, and we went awol at times so we had to have strong words in the dressing room.

"We conceded possession too easily and they took advantage of some soft errors, but we sorted out our structure at half-time and were worthy winners."

Nelson was full of praise for skipper Craig Aikman and pack trio Sam Beaumont, Andrew Irving and Adam Lewis as Fylde climbed to second in National League One, a position which would have earned them a promotion play-off in previous seasons.

And as a second successive season of 'so near yet so far' nears its conclusion, Nelson is frustrated.

He added: "For the second year running it looks as though we will have to go and watch the champions receive their trophy on the last day of the season. It happened at Tynedale last year and we finish at Nuneaton this time.

"Last season we finished third, and had we come second I feel we would have won the play-off but I got involved too late in the season.

"This season it is well documented that I was disappointed with three of our away defeats and they have proved costly. I will be making an announcement in the next few days concerning my views about next season."
