FYLDE'S Steve Nutt has still to make up his mind whether he is staying at the Woodlands next season.
Nutt, whose last-gasp try paved the way to Lancashire beating Yorkshire in a thriller at the Woodlands, could return to his old club Sedgley Park, but stressed he had not made his mind up yet one way or another.
Nutt said: "It is undecided at the mo
ment.

"I have a good season here at Fylde and really like the club, and I have a good relationship with Mark Nelson (coach)

"I am due to fly to Australia on the night of the County Championship final because my brother's wife is having a baby there.

"When I get back, I will reassess the position and make the decision.
Asked about a return to Sedgley Park, Nutt said: "At the end of the season, a lot of clubs talk to a lot of players – I live on the door-step of Sedgley Park, and I had a great time when I was there.

"I have a good relationship with them and a lot of friends there.

"I have a very busy job and I do a lot of travelling, and where I play my rugby is determined by my job.

"It is the travelling to training that may be the problem."

Reflecting on Lancashire's victory, Nutt said: "There's nothing like leaving it to the last minute!

"We have some great strength in the forwards and some fire power in the backs, and we knew that if we had a chance we would take it.

"We were eight points down with 10 minutes to go and Yorkshire slightly took their foot off the pedal.

"You have to play to the final whistle, which we did – Yorkshire might think they should have won it, but luckily I was there at the end to get the try.

"A draw would not have benefited either team, and you wouldn't want to have to rely on going to Twickenham on points difference."

Nutt started the match as kicker, but after two early missed penalties he passed the duties on to Alex Davies.

"I thought before the match that I was striking the ball well, but when I missed those kicks it became a problem I handed it over to Alex and concentrated on the rest of my game."

Nutt will miss Lancashire's next match in the County Championship against Northumberland on Saturday.

He explained: "I am at a friend's wedding in Durham.

"We have a good squad, though, and a lot of players who can come in, so there won't be any change to the quality of the side."

Nutt had special praise for the performance of Fylde's Sam Beaumont.

He said: "Sam has just stepped so well into his old man's shoes – they won't remember who Bill is in a few years!

"Bill won't mind me saying that – I have a love/hate relationship with him!"

Lancashire coach Nelson said the players should not think that they have booked a place in the final yet.

"We have to enjoy the win – it's a massive win in a Roses match and the players have to be proud of that achievement.

"But now we need to regroup and refocus on the next match.

"We have to nail the match against Northumberland and only then can we say that we have got to the final.

"I always thought we had the fire power to beat Yorkshire. When things went against us, we kept the faith – rugby teams need that inner-belief and I think this team has got that.

"When the chips were down, the team needed to dig deep and that's what they did, and that is a tremendous accolade to these players – lesser sides would have capitulated, but we didn't.

"That was a pretty-even heavyweight punch-up and we came through on points.

"Anybody who saw that match and says county rugby is a dead duck has to have a re-think. That was as passionate as anything you would get in club rugby, and it probably took it up a level as well."
