IT was a day of mixed fortunes for the flying wingers as Fylde warmed up for their back-to-back derbies against Preston with this eight-try romp at Wagon Lane.
National Three North's top try-scorer Oliver Brennand helped himself to three more but two-try Nick Royle was forced out of the action with a worrying heel infection.

Fylde made a supercharged start as prop Andrew Irving powered over for his first try for the club after a second-minute penalty.

Fly-half Neil Hunter provided the answer to the previous weekend's goalkicking problems, landing the first of his seven conversions as Fylde took a lead they would never relinquish.

However, the Bees reduced the deficit with a straightforward Steve Brimacombe penalty on 14 minutes.

But as the home side moved the ball right three minutes later, a telegraphed pass was plucked out of the air by Brennand, who strolled in from halfway.

The lesson was not learned and Royle added a carbon copy interception try on the opposite flank as Fylde led 21-3 with the game only 20 minutes old.

A scrappy spell of play saw Bees no.8 David Ford sin-binned on 32 minutes for a technical offence and Fylde wasted no time in capitalising as his opposite number Dan Bowman touched down from a scrum move.

Fylde's back row was dominant and when possession was won a minute before the break, smart passing sent Royle through an unpopulated defence for his second try.

Hunter completed a faultless half with the boot by making it 35-3 at the interval.

Fylde got to sample the sin-bin when Dan Palmer was dispatched early in the second half, but that did not stop the scoring as Brennand added his second after lock Alistair Atkinson effected a turnover.

An indistinguised period of play followed as Fylde rang the changes and endured a second sin-binning. It was while prop Adam Lewis was taking his 10-minute breather that Bees lock Alan Grange ran through for a 59th-minute try.

Fylde responded within a minute as Craig Aikman burst clear and Royle moved the ball on to centre Tom Albinson, who sidestepped the last two defenders for a fine try. Hunter was wayward with his conversion attempt for the only time all day.

That was Royle last action of the game as his blistered foot prevented him from continuing. In his place, Fylde welcomed back influential playmaker Steve Nutt after his rib injury.

And it was from Nutt's break that Brennand scored his third try of the day and 22nd of the campaign on 73 minutes.

The home team at least had the final say of a one-sided contest when winger Mark Kirkby finished off a good move. The final whistle blew immediately after Brimacombe's conversion.
