ADAM Warlow was officially the star of the show but was upstaged at the Fleetwood Town FC awards night ... by Elvis Presley.
On the night that 24-goal striker Warlow was proclaimed the king of Highbury – winning the player of the season, players' player of the season and manager's player of the season awards – it was fitting that the king of rock 'n' roll should also drop in.

Town's goalkeeping coach Eric Nixon, the former Seasiders no.1, marked the end of his first season at the club by treating the players, staff and fans at Jim's Bar to his renowned Elvis impersonation.

Nixon explains: "The tribute act started about 20 years ago, during my playing days with Tranmere Rovers.

"The end of season trip was usually to Magaluf and the karaoke used to take some hammer.

"It moved on to performing at testimonial games and charity gigs. I've even played in Dubai.

"I'm an Elvis fan. My wife, Rachael, and I were married in Vegas"

Nixon felt his party-piece was in keeping with the joyous mood of the evening as Town celebrated finishing an admirable eighth in their first Blue Square North campaign.

He added: "For all the ups and downs in the season, we've done fantastic overall. The manager, players and supporters have all played their part."

Andy Bell's FA Cup hat-trick against Nantwich was voted the 'magic moment' of the season, while manager Micky Mellon also hailed Michael Taylor's contribution.

THE Gazette-sponsored clubman of the year award went to Town press officer Derick Thomas.

Derick said: "The award represents all the hard work by the press office team. Daz Clark, Dave Roe and Jamie Blundell have all ensured Town's home and away coverage has grown this season."

The Gazette would like to add its own thanks to Derick and his colleagues for all their help.

The presentations may have marked the end of the 2008/9 campaign but Fleetwood's first pre-season friendly has already been arranged.

Town will play Scottish club Queens Park on July 11 during their training camp in Glasgow.
