A NEW charity road race between Fleetwood and Cleveleys had a runaway start with 209 competitors.
But it will be even bigger next year, according to one of the organisers, Pete Waywell.
He said: "I would expect 300 to 400 next year – you can usually add on 200 if it's been a successful race."
The race was run to raise money for the Institute of Cancer Research for their work on Sotos Syndrome, an ailment which makes children grow more quickly than normal and also produces other health problems.
Idea
The idea came from Sue Eaton, of Kendal Avenue, Cleveleys, whose four-year-old daughter Emily-May Eaton has the illness.
It is hoped the race will have raised more than £1,000.
The race winners were Gary Pendlebury, of Wesham Road Runners, and Rachel Jones, of Salford Harriers.
Fun run winner was Amelia Betmead, of Fleetwood.
Next year's race will be on June 28.
