IT'S payback time for offenders in Fleetwood.
Those who have been given community punishments have been carrying out projects across the port as part of their rehabilitation.
Many of the schemes have been chosen by members of the community after the Probation Service appealed for ideas.
Julie
Barlow, practice manager for Community Payback, said: "We have had a good response.
"We love it because it's all about restorative justice and giving back to the community.
"Offenders are proud of what they achieve."
Projects carried out by offenders include work on steps near the boating lake, a disabled ramp to provide access to the sea wall, gardening for the elderly, painting windows at the Mount Pavilion, painting in Euston Park and repairing and installing public benches.
The idea for a sea wall ramp was thought up by wheelchair-user Val Perry of Grange Road.
She said: "It's great news. It will be good to get on the sea wall. I want to thank everybody."
Community Payback could also solve a long-running problem at Avon Green on the Warren Farm Estate.
A piece of spare land there is a fly-tipping site and the Probation Service is in talks with housing group Regenda to see if it can help with the problem.
Mrs Barlow added: "Community Payback isn't a soft option.
They work six hours per day on manual tasks and in all weathers so a lot of it is hard labour and a lot of it is in public."
