A TRAFFIC danger zone in Fleetwood will face an official probe within weeks.
One person has been killed and 36 injured in the last six years on the half-mile stretch of Fleetwood Road from the West View roundabout to the cricket club.
Now Lancashire County Council is about to conduct a investigation into the area which includes Flakefleet Primary School.
The stretch of road also has a bus stop, numerous road junctions and a convenience store.
County Hall's probe will also consider two proposed bus stops near the West View Health Village which some residents are opposing on safety grounds.
The residents claim the stops could cause danger at a new zebra crossing nearby and create traffic tailbacks on to the West View roundabout. Parking problems are also foreseen.
Six years ago there was a death at a bus stop near the cricket club. The stop has since been moved near to the junction with Larkholme Lane.
Keith Hawkins, who lives near the bus stop, says he witnesses daily traffic problems.
He said: "There are hundreds of school children at school times. They are kicking a ball across the road and you can hear car horns going.
"The road needs a good looking at. It has become a race track. The only saving grace is the volume of traffic means the traffic goes slower.
"But on occasions when it's quiet you still see them hammering down here at 50 to 60mph.
"Where the bus stop is, the road is subsiding. Lorries come past now and the whole house is shaking.
"The roads weren't designed for the volumes of traffic we are getting."
The county investigation will look at the causes of 27 collisions which have caused injuries to 37 people in six years and may recommend traffic calming measures.
A county council spokesman said: "A site visit will be taking place to follow up the concerns expressed by local residents who will be notified when this is due to take place. The proposed bus stops on Fleetwood Road have been planned in order to improve access for local people to the Broadway medical centre.
"Although concerns were raised during the consultation process, the plans have been designed with safety in mind."

No doubt it will more than likely take another fatality for something to be actually done about it. how many years has this been a dangerous road ??? Too many. Finance before lives. How wrong is that ?
