HEALTH bosses planning a new £1m medical centre in Fleetwood are searching for somewhere to site it.
North Lancashire Primary Care Trust wants to equip the town centre with a facility which will include a walk-in centre for people with minor injuries and a string of other services which will cut trips to Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
The scheme, al
ong with a new centre for the Thornton and Cleveleys area, was revealed by The Gazette last month.
But the project hasn't yet hit the drawing board yet because they don't know whether it will be new-build or will take advantage of an existing property.
Kevin McGee, the North Lancashire Teaching Primary Care Trust's director of commissions, said: "The new Health Centre will be in a central location.
"We are not in a position yet to confirm exactly where it will be located as this decision is dependent on the outcome of the services bid that will take place later this year and will be open to all interested parties.
"The health centre is a significant investment and will have a positive effect on healthcare provision in the area through extended opening hours and additional services.
"The health centre will be an addition to current GP services."
Mr McGee added that although £1m was the current cost of the centre but that figure could grow and the trust was exploring additional ways of getting capital.
He said: "It's all part of our push to help provide more personal care for the people of Fleetwood."
The centre would be open from 8am to 8pm seven days a week.
Wound
The trust is hoping to have the details worked out by the end of 2008 so work can begin in 2009.
It will probably include a pharmacy, medical health services, sexual health advice, post-operative wound care and intravenous anti-biotic treatment.
