A film maker is desperately seeking a very special kind of Blackpool mum.
The dedicated parent is needed to take part in a promotional film, which is being made to celebrate Blackpool’s annual Veterans’ Week, taking place from June 21 to 29.

The special individual must be a veteran of HM Armed Forces and currently have
young children.

The film will also feature forces veterans who now work locally as a councillor, a chef, a postal worker, a teacher, a hairdresser, an office manager and a self-employed labourer.

Coun Julian Mineur, who is co-ordinating the film, said: “We are really keen to track down a local mum who has previously served in HM Armed Forces.

“Blackpool’s Veterans’ Week aims to change the stereotypical views that many people hold of veterans. They are of all ages, they come from a variety of cultural backgrounds and many now work invisibly in civilian society.

“Anyone who wants to take part in the film will not be asked to talk or be interviewed, but we will need them to hold up a picture of themselves in uniform during their time of service.”

The four-minute long film, called Here's to the Heroes, will be set to an evocative piece of music and will be produced at the Blackpool City Learning Centre.

Anyone who is interested to take part can get in touch with Julian Mineur on 07900 086 761 or at julian.mineur@blueyonder.co.uk

This year’s Veterans’ Week will also incorporate National Veterans’ Day, which takes place in Blackpool on Friday June 27 and will focus the eyes of the nation on the resort. Events, including a night time parachute drop on to the beach, military land, sea and air displays and veterans’ badge presentations, are being organised by Blackpool Council, the Fylde Ex-Service Liaison Committee and veterans.

Regular updates on events will be posted at www.veteransweek.co.uk, where you can also sign up for a newsletter. Alternatively, you can call (01253) 478 2222 for more information.
