Letters - June 29
My friends and I have just got back from a holiday in Blackpool, we have spent our holidays in Blackpool for a good many years.
On each holiday we go down to the Pleasure Beach for a drink and bite to eat.
We were stopped at the main gate by a member of the staff and told we had to pay 5 entrance fee. I said we were OAPs and only wanted to walk around and have something to eat and drink. He said he was sorry but if we wanted to go in we had to pay 5, we declined and walked away.
I feel sorry for the people who rent the shop units that sell food and drink, they will suffer a loss in takings.
It is not helping to bring tourists into Blackpool by charging 5.
We are in a recession and living in difficult times with job losses and high food prices, we will still come to Blackpool for holidays but we will not be visiting the Pleasure Beach.

Congratulations and thanks are due in no small measure to
independent Kirkham councillors Elaine Silverwood and Liz Oades for their intervention in the public
inquiry into the leisure and retail complex proposed at Mill Lane.
Quite properly, the planning
inspector has dismissed BAE
Systems' appeal against the
decision to refuse permission.
It should have been apparent to the least responsive person that the proposed development, if
permitted, would have had
catastrophic consequences for the retail robustness of Kirkham and Freckleton with knock-on effects on the social and economic framework of both centres.
BAE Systems is to re-think its
position. In doing so, it should come forward with proposals which add to, and not detract from, the
well-being of the area in which it operates.
How does Fylde Council justify its decision not to be part of the public inquiry? In short, it cannot.
Council tax payers who turned in droves to independent candidates in the recent local elections have soon had their decision confirmed as the right one.

For the past four or five years I have been phoning, lobbying, attending meetings and forums, with all the
relevant authorities trying to find someone who will hold up their hand and accept
responsibility for the growing
number of camper vans
parking on the streets every
season.
They regularly park and sleep overnight (which I keep being told is illegal) staying from one night to 14 nights, especially around the
perimeter of the Solaris
gardens.
This is a favourite site due to their being public toilets in the grounds of the solaris.
If I ring the police they tell me that they cannot sleep in these vans, but that they do not have the resources to send someone along.
I believe your residents, hoteliers, caterers and
caravan site owners, who all pay very good rates and
licenses to Blackpool Council, deserve at least an
explanation as to why this is overlooked by the authorities.

Cyclists need to slow down
Now the Promenade from Cleveleys to Fleetwood has been designated a cycle way and work done to fill in a lot of the joints on the surface, along with white lines and signs erected to warn cyclists not to ride into the sea, it would be a good idea to have the signs explaining this is not a race way, it is a shared
Promenade – be courteous to others and slow down when passing.
If things go on like they are there will be a nasty accident. name and address

Levy is another grab for money
An independent regulator is to be appointed to oversee, or
regulate, the much maligned gravy-train expenses of our members of Parliament.
All well and good – but what is to keep them from offsetting this by awarding themselves yet
another pay rise?
A levy is to be imposed on the line rentals of fixed telephones, or landlines, to pay for the
improving of broadband. What about those who neither need nor want this latest toy?

Scooter has to go on road
As a mobility scooter rider of nine years I would like to put a few facts right.
Only once have I had abuse shouted at me by a car driver in all nine years.
I drive my buggy between my home and Highfield Road and during that journey either on Common Edge Road or
Midgeland Road I need to travel on the road at least three times as the curbs are too high to mount or dismount.
Also cars are very good when I need to cross a main road, they stop and wave me across.

Tribute to former Blackpool Mayor
I am writing on behalf of the Blackpool and Fylde Ladies Tea Club.
We were shocked and saddened by the sudden death of Coun Granville Heap, Granny to all his friends.
Granny was a gentle giant, if he could not say anything good about a person, he said nothing.
For years he helped us with raising money, always there with a smile on his face plus a few jokes, he was our DJ, Blackpool's finest.
He loved Blackpool and the people and he was loved back, I was a friend for more years than I like to think about.
Blackpool has lost a jewel from its crown but there will be a bright star shining over
Blackpool as we look up, it will be our Granny keeping his eye on us all.
