Letters - June 24

It is time to grant the only thing which will prevent Blackpool becoming a ghost town – a super casino.

This would provide work for tradesmen, staff when completed, taxes for the

Government a much needed boost to

Blackpool Airport.

A new conference centre and a state of the art arena where West End shows and artists could appear – the likes of Tina Turner, Tom Jones, Take That and Westlife.

A Las Vegas type casino would provide spectacular world wide entertainers which we don't have at present.

Although new trams and depot are a step in the right direction they will only be used in the height of the season – August until

November (During the Illuminations.

The rest of the year they will as now be running under 50 per cent of capacity.

Local businesses should get signatures to present to the Prime Minister and David Cameron.

If this fails then lets have a referendum and go to the European Courts to get justice.

Help out sanctuaries in need

How I agree with Josephine

Harwood's letter (The Gazette, June 17) when she asks people wanting a pet to go to our local sanctuaries. With less people wanting a pet and more people having to give them up, it makes good sense.

Now is a good time for all pet shops to stop selling live animals.

It makes me wonder just what happens to all the animals they are unable to sell.

The poor creatures cannot be put out with the rubbish like 'out of date' stock at a supermarket, so where do they go and what fate do they endure? Also it would stop tragedies like the numerous

animals who lost their lives in the fire at the Clifton Street shop earlier this year.

We do know our hard working sanctuaries do not put any of their animals down and so many

pregnant animals are handed in to them, there is no shortage of

puppies, kittens, rabbits, etc.

Please do not forget these 'havens' are not out to make a profit like pet shops, they function purely for the welfare of the animals and rely

solely on the generosity of the

general public.

Not all green good

As you drive around the Fylde coast, going from town to town, you notice proud signs displayed stating '

Winner of Best Town in Bloom.'

I wonder, if Blackpool Council are trying to win this prestigious accolade? My

reasons for this can be seen on every street, road, avenue, close, drive, call them what you wish.

I am referring to, of course, the new form of horticulture, otherwise known to you and me as weeds. Look down any street and you will see an abundance of them. Some pavements are starting to turn green.

I know our masters in Westminster and every

council in the country, keep banging on about the need to go green.

Call me cynical, but I always thought that it was the responsibility of the local council to keep our roads clean from weeds. I think back to those good old days, when you saw a council

worker spraying weedkiller.

Name and address supplied

Why would the Post Office move into the Harvey's site when they already have a building fitted out across the road attached to the sorting facility?

Of course how it makes sense to use the former Post Office for just undelivered parcel

collection is certainly beyond reason, this certainly needs

questioning!

What is the future for the Old Post office then?

Council chiefs might like to get the answers on that.

If possible a look at the

customer numbers for the W H Smith facility compared to the old Abingdon Street office should indicate which is the best

location for customers.

What is wrong with moving back into the old Post Office building on Abingdon Street?

Why waste more money

converting this building for use as a Post Office when we have a purpose built facility over the road.

This money could be used for something else.

If the Post Office ever agree to move back to the old building on Abingdon street someone needs to lose their job for a terrible decision in the first place.

This is wonderful news. Let's hope it is planned well and user friendly.

Common sense seems to have prevailed.

I have only used that place in W H Smith once so I look forward to a Post Office thats efficient and in a place that's accessible to all.
