State of Prom spoiling town regeneration
Although I find it heartening to see
Blackpool Council investing money
redeveloping the town centre in a bid to
recapture its former glory days, I believe it is guilty of a glaring oversight.
Speaking from the perspective of someone who was a tourist to the area first before
eventually moving to Blackpool several years later, the main focus for any redevelopment plans should first and foremost be
concentrated on the Promenade.
The tourism industry is of huge
importance to the survival and future
prosperity of our town, with the Promenade playing a key role in attracting new
generations of families here.
But when I take a walk down the sea front nowadays, what do I see? A dilapidated
bowling alley, derelict buildings and run down shops.
All of these depressing sights come together to give the impression that Blackpool is a place that has given up all hope of being an
attractive proposition to potential would-be-holidaymakers.
It's an absolute shambles and I feel
embarrassed when I see how unloved our once-fine seafront has now become.
The beach and the Promenade are the main reasons why people come to coastal
resorts like Blackpool. It is all well and good
pumping millions of pounds into building a fancy new shopping centre, but people can visit a River Island or Debenhams in their own town or city.
People come here to let their hair down and enjoy the sights and sounds of the
seaside, and by completely neglecting what should be the centrepiece of our fair town we are doing Blackpool a grave injustice.

Fight apathy and stop gas storage plan
No matter whether it is dodgy politicians, greedy developers, yobs or even the EU bureaucrats, when it comes to the Brits standing up for themselves they know we will not and they will get away with it most of the time.
Why? Because we simply can't be bothered to vote, object , complain or stick up for our rights and consequently, we let them walk all over us.
It's a national sickness and it is called apathy.
By mentioning the words gas storage, I risk losing your
attention straightaway because it's boring – there are no celebs involved and yes, you've heard it all before.
However, regardless of the fact that our previous objections helped Lancashire County
Council , the Planning Inspectorate and the Secretary of State come to the right decision to throw it out, the same threat has returned.
This does not mean that we failed, on the contrary, we achieved a resounding victory. It just means that the developers involved don't know the meaning of the word no and still believe that, by putting in yet another similar application, that they will grind us down eventually.
They are gambling not only with the safety of the people of Wyre but also on the assumption that our apathy will help them win.
Therefore, I ask that you prove them wrong yet again by
registering your objections to this unnecessary scheme now.
You still have time to act. It only takes a few minutes and it is very, very easy. Visit the Protect Wyre Group website at
www.pwgroup.org.uk to find out how you can make your
objections count.
There is so much negativity in our lives these days but it doesn't have to be that way.
Do something positive today. Don't leave it to somebody else. Don't let apathy into your lives – take action now and we will win, again and again.

No flight
In response to FlyBe pulling out of Blackpool Airport.
I have a son who lives in Northern Ireland, so being a pensioner this route is very handy for me when I go to visit him and his family. Imagine my dismay when last week I read The Gazette and found they were pulling out.
Already I had two trips booked with FlyBe. The
October one was booked at the
beginning of June when their new schedules were out and by June 10 they had made their
decision. Up to now no-one has been in touch.

Grateful for collapse help
Could I thank all those who came to the aid of my grandson who collapsed outside the bus stop near the fire station on St Annes Road on Friday May 12 at around 8am.
I would like to thank in
particular the lady who stopped and put my grandson in the
recovery position and also the firemen that gave him oxygen.
Could I also thank his good friend Dale for alerting Rick and me.

Andrew's death is very sad news
It was with extreme sadness in which I read the story in The Gazette about the passing away of Andrew Sweet who lost his long and courageous battle with cancer.
I did not know Andrew
personally, I only knew him to serve him when he would come into KFC in Marton.
I always found Andrew to be pleasant, polite and most
articulate. I know this young man is going to be very sadly missed, My partner, Daniel Clark, and myself would like to offer Andrew's family our most heartfelt condolences, and have them know our warmest thoughts are with them.

Thanks to all who visited
I would like to thank those
people who have taken the time to visit our informative, but non party political street table in Cleveleys.
They have taken the time to read the pamphlets that was available on the workings and
directives of the European Union, that in one way or
another effects us all.
A very big thank you to those of you who have signed The
Better Off Out campaign, run by The Freedom Association, our own table has collected a great of number of signatures.
After talking and listening with so many of you over the last twelve years, I know the British Electorate are quite capable of making up their own minds, so no need to panic over the BNP this after all is democracy, as the late Sir James Goldsmith said, "let the people decide"
