Letters - June 18
Vital boost or waste? I object to the fact that £100m of tax payers money is to be spent on the tram system in Blackpool.
The trams are a novelty not a necessity for goodness sake!
They only run regularly for six months of the year, and then its intermittently.
It's too cold to venture onto the Prom in winter, plus the fact that there is a more
reliable bus service running along side!
People love the old trams. If that wasn't the case why would there still be plans to bring out the old vintage trams in summer?
Remember this is our money that is being used during this recession.
It should be used for more useful purposes such as a better sewage system to clean up the sea or to clean the town up, never mind a new tram system!

My wife and I came to Blackpool the other day visiting a friend and saw the tram article in your paper.
I thought I should write in to say I am amazed and concerned that Blackpool is only looking to save one of your fabulous open top single deck trams!
For goodness sakes – the trams, the Tower, the Illuminations are all big attractions.
How about getting a save our open top trams petition going?

Well done to the Labour Government for agreeing to give the cash needed for the tramway, this is on top of the monies to
enable the sea front to be modernised and worth walking down.
It's just a shame our council aren't so
forward thinking – whose idea were the
Triffid lights on Clifton Street, and the sewer pipes lighting on Birley street, which was an area which was looking really good?

Join charity walk in Wyre
For many years our Friends fundraising group have organised a sponsored walk between Blackpool and Fleetwood, which has been very successful and raised many
thousands of pounds for Trinity and Brian House Children's
Hospice.
This year we have decided to
introduce our walkers to a different area, with a Walk on the Wyreside.
The walk starts at 10am on
Sunday, July 12, lasting about two hours and covering approximately three miles.
It will start and finish at the Wyre Estuary Country Park, Stanah, Thornton.
The Wyre rangers will provide a fun nature trail for all children
taking part and if the weather
permits there will be activities on completion.
We will provide all our younger walkers with a treat at the finish line.
For further information and to receive a registration form, please call Sheila on 867276 or Maureen on 694503 or alternatively you can email angiehesketh@tiscali.co.uk.

Discreet feeding
Many years ago I was taking lunch in a pub with a group of friends. The lady sitting right next to me was holding a baby. Having finished my meal and seeing that hers was hardly touched I innocently asked "Would you like me to hold your baby while you eat your meal?" "No thank you" said the lady, smiling at me. She dropped her voice to a
whisper "I'm feeding her" she said. I was sitting right next to her and I had not noticed.
Trust me I decided then and there that if she could do it so very discreetly then so can anyone – it ain't what you do it's how you do it.

Fee a threat to air future
In response to the 10 charge for each passenger over 16 flying from Blackpool Airport.
I agree with 'Tone from
Thornton' (The Gazette, June 15) it must be having an effect on passenger numbers.
I am of the same mind and will not use Blackpool till they scrap this outrageous charge.
I am flying from Blackpool to Alicante in August but only
because I booked the flight before the charge was announced.
Now the person that
introduced this charge is going let's hope the new boss scraps this charge before it kills the airport completely and he or she doesn't have an airport to run

Peril of parking on pavements
In January this year I wrote to The Gazette highlighting the danger of parking on pavements.
I then wrote to Joan Humble's office who replied with a letter attached from Inspector Old of Bispham Police Station.
A phone conversation with
Inspector Old revealed that
pavement parking was not
strictly illegal and fell into a grey area.
I said at the time I was
concerned that one day a bad
accident would result from this and unfortunately that has now happened.
Now is the time to clear up this problem because things will only get much worse as vehicle ownership increases
