Letters - June 16

Your correspondent John Bailie (The Gazette, June 6) seems hell bent in his opposition to the current Poulton Vicarage Road Health Centre proposal.

Quite apart from the dubious claims of the representatives of the Station Road scheme being able to solve the problems of the gas main diversion and contamination of the site it was interesting to note that no

directors of the Baxter Group were present at the recent meeting to offer their financial guarantees to the scheme, rather than the promises of their consultants present, Viz

Architect and Estate Agent.

Mr Bailie took great delight in pointing out alleged anomalies in the traffic modifications but it should be pointed out that these cannot be laid at the door of the developers as the scheme was prepared by the County Council traffic management department.

The present 80-year-old church hall cannot be repaired or renovated as a structural

engineer's report five years ago stated that the steel structure was in advanced state of corrosion and rebuilding of an up-to-date

facility for the 21st century was the only

alternative.

If this present scheme is not approved

several years effort will have been wasted and the whole process will have to be started again while the patients of the respective practices will continue to have to put up with outdated facilities.

Pupils and staff deserve highest praise

I was invited to the open day of the magic garden to view the

eco-activities currently being

carried out by the pupils and staff at Great Arley school and Red Marsh School in Thornton.

Visitors were taken round in small groups headed by pairs of pupils whose task it was to explain in detail the process and stage of each activity.

It was truly inspiring and so very interesting.

The two pupils - Sean and James – who took our group through all the exhibits were so informative and great care was taken by them to make sure we didn't miss anything and they answered our questions knowledgeably and professionally.

The teachers and assistants

deserve the highest praise for their skill and the palpable warmth shown by them to all the pupils in their care.

I came away feeling a much

happier person. My niece is on the teaching staff at Great Arley School. I now know and understand just why she loves it there.

Great Arley and Red Marsh are not just schools for children with special needs – more importantly they are schools for children with special hidden talents that are continually being drawn out and nurtured by dedicated teachers – the like of which are very rarely to be found these days.

Those pupils are truly blessed, for under such caring guidance, they each have a chance to use these talents and achieve success when stepping out into the future.

My heart felt thanks goes to all those good people at both schools for opening my eyes in wonder at their achievements.

Protect park from vandals

Regarding vandalism at Louie Horrocks Park.

In Plymouth all parks that can be locked are done so from dusk to dawn. As a result anti-social behaviour in the area dropped as it denied gangs somewhere to hang around out of sight of the police.

Also parks, provide an escape route for these gangs to avoid being questioned by the police as they can just run to the other side and be gone.

I know there is a camera situated in Louie Horrocks Park, but it does no good. In fact if you look at where the camera is situated, it's view of the park is partially obscured by the trees growing in front of it, hence there are blind spots which these youths are more than aware of.

Shopping left in store was taken

Can I say a big thank you to the person who kept the shopping I absent mindedly left at the counter at the Tesco on Ansdell Road, Blackpool, on Sunday, June 7.

I know there are honest people out there but it's sad there aren't a few more.

Scooters are legal on road

Would car drivers please note that 8mph and 10mph mobility scooters are allowed on the road.

I am frequently shouted at to get off the road even though I have a road tax disc to prove I am allowed on the road.

Stop bullying disabled people who suffer pain.

Academy show was excellent

Mike Hall's Academy put on something new for two nights, Gianni Schicchi a short comic opera by G Puccini. Quite an

intriguing little plot about wills and money. It was a slick performance by all the well known cast.

And the very popular piece of music "O Mio Babbino Cara" sung by a young lady playing Lauretta, daughter of Schicchi, was very pleasant to the ear.
