Letters - July 3
Camper crackdown I am in total agreement with Mr Moston's letter (The Gazette June 29) in regard to the camper vans and mobile homes that park all around the perimeter of the Solaris Gardens.
Having invested, what we consider to be substantially, in the property Number One South Beach, purely because of its unique
location overlooking the sea, beautiful new South Beach Promenade, mirrorball,
gardens of the Solaris Centre and overall quality of the area, you can imagine how
absolutely incensed we get when our view, which we pay highly for with regards rates/taxes etc, is totally obliterated by row upon row of illegally parked camper vans and mobile homes.
Just like Mr Moston we have complained bitterly to all the appropriate parties and just like Mr Moston to absolutely no avail.
They use the free toilets of the Solaris
Centre during the day, they empty their washing up water over the wall or in the
gutter and they empty their chemical toilets down the drain.
They bring their own food and drink, abuse the town's free facilities and
contribute nothing to the Blackpool economy – a drain on our resources.
Are we upset about it? Yes we are. Do we feel totally let down by the powers that be? Yes we do.
It's not like the answer is difficult or
expensive as all we ask is for some signs to say "no overnight sleeping – fine x amount." We fully appreciate that there isn't the
resources to enforce this nightly but surely it would be easy money if the police or traffic wardens came along early morning just once every blue moon and ticketed them all – the word would soon spread.
This is a beautiful area of Blackpool, please don't let these freeloaders spoil it!

Young people aren't all bad
Why do older people see young
people as thugs?
I really do not like being treated as a child. I am made to pay adult prices for everything but yet I am not treated like an adult. I think it is outrageous that a few friends and I cannot go camping because we are only 16.
We were greeted with open arms until I inquired if it was OK that we are 16. This, I am sure, is a common problem for most young people.
We cannot be seen as responsible because some "yob" has committed yet another crime, but how are we expected to gain the respect and trust of adults if we do not have the chance to prove ourselves.
I personally feel this is unfair on the young people who make a
difference in this town and help to better it for everyone. I don't see older people complaining when we help to clean up parks and redesign schools for the future.

Let down by MPs
I cannot help but feel our local MPs are ignoring the views of their constituents yet again. Have MPs learned nothing from the expenses scandal?
MPs' claims were finally revealed last week yet all important details were blacked out which I find unacceptable.
Also Gordon Marsden and Joan Humble voted against a Conservative motion for a more public inquiry into the Iraq War. This is despite the fact most of the public wants to know what is going on
behind closed doors.
I find it funny how this is the same Gordon Marsden who was calling for greater transparency recently. Hopefully next year we will get some MPs who will put the people first and who are more accountable .
