A BUNDLE of exciting new books has been delivered to a Kirkham school library thanks to the school’s very own budding author.

Rachel Horsfield, who is 12, and a pupil at Kirkham Grammar School was short-listed in the final 50 in a BBC Radio Two short story competition last year.

Her 500 word story, called Teeth – A Tale Of Trick Or Treat, saw her beat off competition from more than 30,000 entrants to be included in the short-list.

As well as having her words published on the BBC Two website, she was also invited to attend the Hay literary festival in Wales to rub shoulders with celebrities.

As an extra treat, her school was presented with 50 new fiction books which are taking pride of place in the school library.

Carolyn Copland, librarian at the school said: “We are delighted Rachel’s prize has allowed us to have these wonderful new books in the library.

“The competition was part of the BBC Year of Books and aimed to inspire children aged 13 or under to get creative and write a story about any fictional topic of their choice.

“This year’s competition has just been launched so we encourage all our budding author’s to take part.”
