ADVENTUROUS workers hope to reach new heights in a fundraising challenge.

Colette Gallacher, from Wrea Green, is one of a number of staff at Workers IT Works Recruitment preparing to climb Ben Nevis.

The intrepid walkers will take on the highest mountain in the British Isles to raise money for the Down’s Syndrome Association.

Colette, 25, of Wrea Crescent, said: “Every year the company comes up with a challenge, a couple of years ago they walked Scafell Pike for Help for Heroes.

“Last year my colleague Oliver’s daughter was born with Down’s Syndrome so we have decided to raise money for the Down’s Syndrome Association. It’s close to my heart as my mum is a teacher and has worked with children with Down’s. It’s really important we raise awareness of it.

“I’m really looking forward to taking on Ben Nevis. At 4,409 feet it’s no mean feat but we’ll manage it, I’m sure.”

Colette’s mother, Lynn Gallacher, who lives in Kirkham, said she has worked with two children with the syndrome.

She said: “I’m so proud Colette. Any money that can be donated to the association is wonderful because they do such a great job supporting parents.”

Oliver Underwood, whose nine-month old daughter Annie-May was born with Down’s, said she will be the team’s mascot.

He added: “We didn’t find out Annie had Down’s Syndrome until she was born. The association does such a good job because it helps fill in the gaps. They have offered us great support and by taking part in the challenge I can raise money for them while raising awareness of Down’s Syndrome.”
