Lifting the lid on democracy
Children from Anchorsholme Primary School visit Downing Street
ANCHORSHOLME children stood in the footsteps of some of history’s greatest known figures during a visit to Downing Street.
A group of pupils from the school council and debating society at Anchorsholme Primary took a trip to the capital as they learned more about the workings of democracy.
Pupils got to see The Houses of Parliament and 10 Downing Street in a day Lindsey Farrer, a teacher at the East Pines Drive school is sure they will never forget.
She said: “The children had a fantastic day and getting to see Downing Street was a real highlight for them. We have spent two terms teaching them about democracy so getting to see the Houses of Parliament was great.
“We invited a local councillor and our local MP in to speak to children about their role so it was important to put it in a national perspective too.
“They were so well behaved on the train to London and on the Underground, I was very proud of them. I’m sure it will be a day they will never forget.”
