Best of Health Judges’ Award
This week sees the launch of The Gazette’s Best of Health Awards. It is the second year the awards – which honour local health heroes – have been run.

Last year’s event, which saw health workers from the NHS and private sector honoured in a glittering ceremony at Ribby Hall Village in Wrea Green, was such a success, this year’s awards promises to be even bigger and better.

The awards have been opened up to cover more areas of health, and the presentation ceremony for 2012 will be even more prestigious.

We are asking you, our readers, to nominate the person from the health sector you feel has made an outstanding contribution, has gone the extra mile, or done something above and beyond the call of duty.

We are looking for those who are the best in their field, whether they be well-known and high-profile workers, or the unsung heroes who work tirelessly behind the scenes.

Perhaps you have a family member who devotes their time to caring for a loved one, or you know someone in your community who looks after the health and welfare of others.

The awards aim to recognise excellence and innovation in health professionals, but also to honour those who care in the voluntary sector.

We are looking for inspirational stories of those who have gone the extra mile – whether they be a heart surgeon, a wonderful community nurse, an unsung hero who makes a difference to the lives of others, or a midwife, who helped a new mum through a difficult time.

Gazette deputy editor Alison Bott said: “We are looking for those who genuinely represent the best in health – whether from the voluntary or paid-for sector.

“These awards will serve to act as recognition and as a reward, to those who go the extra mile to look after the health of others.

“Last year’s awards were such a great success and we heard some truly inspiring and heart-warming stories of those who really are health heroes.”
