RUMOUR has it that Steve Coppell was furious about the state of the pitch, disgusted with the surface his players were being asked to play on.
After 25 minutes he was probably a little less worried.

At that stage Reading appeared set for victory, only to throw it away with a sloppy performance that explained why their target is now the play-offs rather than automatic promotion.

For Pool there was only quiet satisfaction at another good afternoon's work, when they again shocked a side ranked much higher than them, not just in terms of league position but size of club too.

For half an hour it was awful. Then, warmed by Keith Southern's goal, Pool began to work the channels, to get the ball wide and get a few crosses into the box.

With two huge centre backs in Michael Duberry and Andre Bikey – and without Ben Burgess in the line up – it was imperative not to go route one. Pool were guilty of it initially but then smartened up their act and began to cause problems by using pace either side of the centre halves.

It was reason they were able to equalise (Campbell drawing Duberry out wide and taking him apart) and why they were the better side for the final hour.

Lee Hughes did OK on his second start, though Burgess – after his derby display – is probably above him in the pecking order.

The back four recovered to perform commendably.

David Vaughan and Roy O'Donovan are capable performers but need to add a little more threat on the flanks.

However, they both enjoy running with the ball at their feet and aren't helped by the terrible playing surface.

Charlie Adam was the best performer. He shone whenever he had the ball and has proved the signing of the season.

Tony Parkes and Steve Thompson often don't get the credit they deserve.

For that signing alone, they deserve plenty.

'Lee Hughes did OK on his second start, though Burgess – after his derby display – is probably above him in the pecking order.' What on earth are you on about, Canavan? BBB is a decent squad player, but please please please wake up and smell the coffee. He was ok at deepdale, but pretty lumbering and lazy for periods too. Hughes and Campbell are a different league.

If you had not played for 11 weeks after an injury would you be good? BBB did ok considering, get off his back you idiots, we won didn't we at PNE, with the help of BBB. Did we win any headers yesterday?...
yep Hughes won in 90 mins.
Hughes is better on the ground but BBB is better all round & helping out in defence. Managers all seem to rate him, so open your eyes & SUPPORT him!

Big Ben, aka Marmite (love him or hate him). He played SUPERB at PNE, and without his constant winning of the high balls, his constant hold up play and his general physical presence we may well not have won. DJ and Hughes ARE quality, but they are also both diddy men, as is Brett. Good managers will pick players suited to their form and of course the oposition. (Think Crouch for England).

BBB deserves a lot more credit than what he gets...admitedly he could do with smashing the ball in the back of the net some more, but his all round play and work for the team is worthy of many a starting position.

its a shame everyone is bickering about who should be picked above who. Its been a good easter with 4 points taken from 6 to help our survival, we have damaged PNE's play off hopes and ended readings automatic promotion hopes, all in all that to me is a very good easter job done.

As fans we should be all looking toward backing the team in these last few games. Closed season is the time for saying who should stay or go.

I really hope that the team never read these comments because some of them would consider not sighning a new contract with the club.

For once I think TP made the right squad selection up front. OK I am not the biggest BBB fan but coming back from a long injury lay off I don't think he would have stood a chance against Dubery and Bikey. The tactics of playing the wings and missing these two giant men out worked well (apart from the first 30 mins or so)and as for not winning the headers (tangerine) I take it you wasn't watching Roy O'Donovan then, he must have had new spring put in his legs and he won 90% of the headers on his wing. Alex and Stephen were outstanding at the back once again and did a good job against the Hunt brothers, as did Joe and Shaun. Unfortunately Paul had a bit of a mare but he is still our best keeper.
On the whole a bad start to the game, Recovering well which made the second half quite entertaining. Well done lads. Four more points to safety as it stands now.

Why do you say, 'rumour has it'? Was he or wasn't he furious about the state of the pitch? You can't get away with that just because it's a 'blog' You're meant to be a reporter.

Reading didn't 'throw it away with a sloppy performance'. They were made to pay by a very determined and non stop aggressive disply by Blackpool after their second goal. Blackpool's defending for their two goals was, however, quite sloppy, probably due to the fact that we had to play two games in three days, while they had two games in four days.
