IT'S a world record!
Ten soldiers have splashed their way into the world record books for the longest distance spent on a water slide.

The group, from Dorset, have raised more than £10,000 for charity by spending 24 hours continually sliding down the Thunderfalls slide at the Sandcastle Waterpark.

Signaller Mark McCluggage smashed the record by riding the slide an amazing 1,182 times.

He said: "I'm ecstatic. It's an endurance event. I've done marathons and triathlons before but this was by far the hardest challenge.

"All 10 of us broke the record so we're glad to have raised so much money for charity."

The previous record holder for the longest distance travelled in 24 hours by an individual was at the poolside to check out the competition.

Matthew Davenport, 29, from Leeds, said: "They did amazingly well. It's disappointing but the record was there to broken. Maybe I'll come back to try and regain the title."

The money raised by the challenge will be spilt between The Gazette-backed Blackpool's A Knockout MRI scanning appeal and the army charity Help for Heroes.
