TWO teenagers were seriously injured when a car plough-ed into a bus shelter.
The boy and girl - both 17-years-old - were left trapped between the car and shelter on Rossall Road, in Cleveleys.

Police, ambulance and fire crews from Fleetwood and Blackpool were rushed to the scene of last night's crash.

Firefighters spent 30 minutes cutting the teenagers free from the wreckage.

Witnesses said a black Renault Clio was heading down Rossall Road towards Fleetwood, at just after 10pm, when it span, hit three bollards and smashed into the bus shelter side on.

The youngsters, who were waiting for a bus home, were said to have had no time to get out of the car's path.

Emma and Christopher Pilkington, owners of Dukes Pizza, which is just yards from the shelter, witnessed the terrifying ordeal.

Mrs Pilkington, who rang the emergency services, said: "It was awful, they're only young kids. We heard the smash and rushed outside.
"A girl was trapped between the car and shelter and a lad was lying on the floor with blood coming down his face."

Customers and takeaway workers Kevin Buckley, 23, Sean Davies, 20 and Sam Lawrence rushed out to help the two teenagers.
Mrs Pilkington said: "The lad was a bit shook up and the girl was getting upset. She was in a lot of pain. We talked to them to keep them going."

Mr Davies, who is a delivery driver for Dukes, said: "The car was a wreck. The driver's side was all smashed up."
Customer Lee Whalley helped to support the young girl while Mrs Pilkington brought a chair for her to rest on until she was cut free from the wreckage.

Mrs Pilkington added: "When the emergency services arrived we kept out of the way. But we rang the girl's grandparents who came down so we made them a brew. The lad's dad was in shock when we told him and he went straight to the hospital."

Watch manager John Metcalf, from Fleetwood fire station, said: "It seems a car lost control and crashed into a bus stop. One female and male were trapped, but they were conscious.

"We stablised the car so it didn't move and used cutting equipment to remove the posts from the shelter to free the two injured parties."
The two teenagers were taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital to be treated for leg injuries.

Rossall Road was closed for an hour. A police spokesman said: "The male was discharged from hospital last night, but we believe the girl is still being treated."

Police say the driver of the car was not hurt in the incident.

It's not the same shelter still awaiting repair since the last vehicle driving numpty collided with it? More details please re the driver and circumstances involved in this incident. It takes a special kind of driving to hit a bus shelter on an almost straight road in a 30mph speed limit.....
