TRIBUTES have been paid to a "talented and caring doctor" following the death of Carleton medic Robbie McKendrick.
Father-of-two Dr McKendrick, 35, was killed when his Vauxhall Astra was involved in a head-on collision with a lorry in Poulton on Tuesday night.

Bosses at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, where Dr McKendrick had worked over the last eight years while completing his training, said they were deeply saddened by his death.

He had worked as a specialist registrar in anaesthetics before recently moving on to Manchester Royal Infirmary.

Doctor puts smiles on children's faces

Dr McKendrick was shortly due to complete his training as a consultant.

Dr Chris Dunkley, chief of anaesthetics and theatres, said: "He will be missed by many people throughout the hospital and the medical community in the North West of England.

"He was a talented and caring doctor with seemingly endless enthusiasm.

"He had recently returned from a medical charity trip to India after helping care for children under cleft lip and palate surgery.

"All our thoughts are with his family and we mourn a respected colleague and friend."

Dr McKendrick's trip to India was featured in The Gazette last month.

He travelled to Kerala with the Northern Cleft Foundation in a bid to operate on more than 80 children born with cleft palates.

Police were today continuing their investigation into the cause of the collision and again appealed for witnesses.

They would like to speak to the drivers and passengers of two cars travelling behind the Astra on Amounderness Way.

Sgt Guy Young, who is leading the investigation, said: "Any death on our roads is regrettable but it is particularly sad that Robbie, who had committed his life to assisting others, has died in such tragic circumstances.

"The family are extremely upset at their loss. They are trying to come to terms with what has happened and I hope that witnesses who are perhaps reluctant to come forward can now do so to assist us in helping the family understand what took place that night."

I worked with Robie for a few month whilst he was on rotation at Blackburn. He was a fantastic doctor and very caring, a family orientated man, who showed us pictures of his wife and children and was exited about going to India to help in their medical care.

I have all sympathy to his wife and 2 young children, its an absolute tragedy,

RIP Robbie, You will be so missed and I wish your family all the best in the world XXX

I worked with Robbie in Blackpool a couple of years ago and also when he came to the Childrens hospital on his rotation. He was a great guy to work with, always caring for the children and brilliant with the staff. That I had not seen him for two years or so but remember him so well is a testament to his popularity.
My heart goes out to his wife and two children for their dreadful loss and my prayers are for you all.
God bless you Robbie.
