WHERE is the cash? That was the question being asked in Blackpool today after the Government failed to come up with any substantial new money for the resort.
Town leaders were hoping for a big financial boost in the wake of their supercasino dreams being dashed.

But a closer look at yesterday's £300m regeneration package reveals most of the schemes, such as cash for new trams, sea defences, schools and housing, are already in place.

Doug Garrett, chief executive of Blackpool's regeneration company ReBlackpool, said: "There are some encouraging statements, but very little of great substance. This is not a package that says the Government will invest a whole lot in Blackpool."

Council leader Peter Callow said: "A lot of this money has already been dealt out to us."

There was no firm commitment to a new conference centre or a fresh attraction to replace the supercasino which was officially killed off by the Government yesterday.

Blackpool South MP Gordon Marsden said: "It remains to be seen how much is new and focused money."

Another Labour stitch up, everyone do the right thing, and show them what we think at the ballot box next election, and consign these two useless MPs to history.

All the decline in Blackpool has it's roots in New Labour, vote for any candidate bar Labour.

why is blackpool always begging for handouts? if the council used our hard earned money for the right things, we wouldnt always be begging for charity. this council and the one before are totally to blame,.

This report is a bit like the Riverdance - an empty vessel causing a lot of fuss. It is proof that Labour have turned their back on Blackpool. On the same day they ditch the supercasino after months of fiasco, we also find out they intend to do nothing to offer us an alternative. In 17 pages, we get a series of re-announcements of existing small bits of money, and told to go away and find someone else for the big projects we really need, like a new conference centre.

I wasn’t expecting a great deal from the Government, but the paucity of content in this report beggars belief. Our town’s Labour MPs must do a better job of representing this town’s interests – because this Report shows they are not managing it at the moment.

Beachcomber, "charity" all the town is asking for is our fair share of the cake, ahead of Manchester and Liverpool for a change, also well said Mr Maynard.

Indeed, and it the 'there's money from somewhere else to come' attitude that the council (of any hue) has that prevents them from managing the finances more keenly.

Well said Mr Maynard. Our 'local' MP is not even local, which I find ludicrous. I never wanted a supercaino, but I feel the Government should give us something of that calibre just not a casino. £300m is an insult. Especially considering Manchester and London are being awarded billions in regeneration funding.

How about asking the councillors where they live? I know of one who comes from Lancaster, so he won't be affected by ANY decisions he makes.

My local councillors live down the road from me. All Blackpool Councilllors live in their wards or reasonably nearby. One Blackpool Labour MP lives about 200 miles away I heard somewhere, that is ridiculous. MPs should be forced to live in their constituencies when not on Parliamentary business

It does seem that London & the Olympics are receiving wagon loads of cash, I am rather disappointed with our two MP's who have hardly raised more than a whisper about this, they surely realise that Blackpool needs major investment
