Smoke on shop roof sparks alert

FIRE crews were called to shop premises on Central Drive, Blackpool, just before 11.20am yesterday after smoke was seen billowing out of a roof void.
Workers carrying out repairs had ignited timbers and the smoke had spread to adjoining properties.

Drugs plot charge

A man has been remanded in custody over his alleged involvement in a £15m conspiracy to import cocaine.

Simon Finaly, 32, of Park Lane, Wesham, appeared before South Lakeland magistrates yesterday charged with conspiracy to import drugs.

Peter Hannigan, 49, of Kendal, Darren Morris, 32, Mark Neville, 41, both of Preston, and Philip Grange, 53, of Nottingham, have also been remanded to appear before Carlisle Crown Court on July 7.

House blaze

SMOKE damage was caused to a kitchen and three other rooms after flames broke out on the ground floor of a house in Lindale Gardens, South Shore, just after midday yesterday.

Cooker drama

SMOKE damage was caused to a house and adjoining property after a pan was left to burn dry on a cooker hob.

Fire crews were called to Garrick Grove, Blackpool, at 8.40pm yesterday.
