A TRAM and a car were involved in a dramatic collision in the centre of Cleveleys.
An eyewitness has described how a man's silver Ford Focus was in collision with the oncoming double decker tram on Victoria Square just before 10am on Saturday.

Rick Prothero, 25, who was at the scene said: "The car was turning right and a tram wa
s approaching.

Horn

"The driver of the tram was sounding the horn but I don't think the man in the car realised, obviously it is hard for trams to stop so it ended up ploughing right into the side of the car.

"I didn't see how the driver get out but I suppose he must have got out of the passenger side.

"The police and ambulance arrived quite quickly and there were people stood around watching.

"From what I could gather, nobody was hurt

"I think the ambulance was called as a precaution for the people travelling on the tram.

"I saw the man talking to the driver, he must have been quite badly shaken but he seemed alright.

"You could see some damage to the front of the tram and the man's car was fairly well dented but he still managed to drive it away OK."

Police closed the road temporarily as the accident was cleared, a spokeswoman confirmed that there had been no injuries.

It really needs large signs warning drivers at this crossing.
