THE DISTRAUGHT mum of missing teenager Charlene Downes said today: "I want to know where the body of my daughter is."
Karen Downes was today clinging to hope that her daughter was still alive despite detectives arresting two men on suspicion of murder.
Her emotional plea came as swarms of forensic officers scoured two sites in Blackpool for evidence into Charlene's disappearance.
Mum Karen said today: "I want the police to be wrong.
"I still believe the police have got it wrong.
"They have said to us there is a 99.9 per cent chance they have it right but I am still clinging to that tiny percentage.
"If I'm living in false hope, I want to know where the body of my daughter is. I want to know how someone could take the life of a 14-year-old who gave everyone so much happiness with just a smile. "How can they do this to someone we love so much?
"We want to be able to say goodbye to our daughter properly. I haven't slept since this bombshell was dropped on us. I pray if she is dead they didn't hurt her and that she didn't suffer but I cannot give up hope until we have that last piece so we can put her to rest."
Charlene's father, Robert Downes, said: "We are all very, very upset and speechless with the whole thing. I hope the police will bring this to a close for us as soon as they can and stop all our suffering. The not knowing is hurting us just as much as coming to terms with the possibility that Charlene is dead."
Forensic officers returned to the rear of Funny Boyz takeaway on Dickson Road to continue the hunt for clues into her disappearance.
Yesterday, officers were seen clearing a lock-up at the back of the fast food outlet before putting sheets up over the entrance to block the public view.
Det Supt Paul Buschini, the man leading the investigation said: "The three men arrested yesterday are still being questioned and will be throughout the day. We have applied for an extension to speak to them longer and now have until 11pm tonight.
"We are still conducting searches at a premises on Hornby Road and Funny Boyz takeaway. Forensic teams have been at the addresses since yesterday gathering evidence of Charlene being at either premises. We are looking for evidence of Charlene having been at either, rather than still being there."
Mum Karen added: "It is like the very dark first day when Charlene went missing, we feel like we are right back at the start again and I don't know how we are going to be able to cope through this.
"Realistically I think we know probably the police are not wrong, but we want some closure for our family. We were told the police had made advances in the inquiry and thought it would be good news so none of us could have expected this."
