FURIOUS residents are set to fight plans to increase the late night opening hours of a popular Poulton bar.
The Cube, at the Junction of Vicarage Road and Breck Road, wants to open for an extra two hours on Fridays and Saturdays, extending its opening hours to 3am.
But residents, who claim they have suffered years of late night disturbances as a result of drunken revellers exiting clubs in the area, have written to Wyre Council's licensing department to oppose the plans.
They say that cars have been smashed, walls have been kicked over, fights break out regularly and noise wakes them up every night.
Concerned mother-of-two, Stephanie Hasty, 40, from Vicarage Road, called on Wyre Council to pay attention to worries.
"There really is no let up for residents round here," she said. "I've two young children and I'm particularly concerned about the noise levels.
"We are woken up at all hours of the night and there are fights, criminal damage, and the noise has got much worse since the smoking ban came in.
"I go to bars myself and I'm not against people having fun but Vicarage Road is becoming like a circus, traffic is chaotic with taxis using the street as a rank and Wyre Council need to listen to residents' concerns and not allow this to happen.
"They are our representatives after all."
Problems are not said to stem just from The Cube and residents say other nearby bars and clubs including The Residence Nightclub and The Thatched House also create late night noise disturbances.
But solicitors representing The Residence oppose The Cube's application too, saying that two nightclubs opening until 3am would create more public nuisance.
Residents have said: "Enough is enough."
Tony Efstathiou, 60, also from Vicarage Road, added: "There have been fights outside our house and there is also lots of vandalism.
"People coming out of the pubs and bars kick bins over, damage cars and it's a bit of nightmare.
"Both myself and my wife have stressful jobs and we don't want to be kept awake all night.
"I like a drink myself but all the residents around here are fed up with it."
A spokesman for The Cube said he took on board residents' concerns.
"We take all residents' comments into consideration," he said.
"But I wouldn't like to put the carriage before the horse and say anything further.
"We have put the application in, the hearing is next week and we will let the hearing take its course."
Wyre Council licensing committee will decide on Thursday at 6pm.
