POLICE today appealed for hoteliers to come forward and help trace the family of a pensioner seriously injured in a horror crash.
Cyril Bottomley, 91, remains in a serious condition at Blackpool Victoria Hospital after the accident near Poulton's Teanlowe shopping centre.

The pensioner had to be freed by firefighters after he became trapped under the 7.5 tonne lorry near to
the Alleyway Cafe, on Church Street at 11.20am on Thursday.

It is thought the pensioner comes from the Halifax area, but police said he had very little identification on him.

Officers found a set of hotel keys in his pocket and are hoping local guest house owners might be able to help them locate Mr Bottomley's next of kin.

Police are asking hoteliers who had anyone fitting the pensioner's description staying with them to get in touch.

Mr Bottomley was treated by paramedics at the scene, but had to be rushed to hospital with "serious crush injuries".

PC Christopher Ashworth, of Lancashire Police, said: "I would ask local hoteliers in the area to see if they have a Mr Bottomley staying. He is in a serious condition in hospital and we need to inform his family."

Police are also contacting newspapers in West Yorkshire in a bid to track down Mr Bottomley's relatives.

Traffic was brought to a standstill after the accident, which saw emergency crews working for half-an-hour to free the pensioner.

A medical team from The Vic had to be sent to the scene and the air ambulance was scrambled.
