LEADING Fylde councillors have voted to close Kirkham and St Annes swimming pools.
The council's Conservative cabinet voted to go ahead with the closures in a bid to deal with serious financial problems.
Their decision came despite protests from the public and opposition to the closure of Kirkham pool from Coun Simon Renwick, the cabinet's portfolio holder for culture and leisure.
He said: "As a councillor I feel it is important we follow the wishes of residents when it comes to spending their money."
A final decision will be taken at a full council meeting next month.
