IT has featured in countless newspapers, been shown on TV news around the world, attracted thousands of hits on YouTube and now the stricken ferry Riverdance has become the star of a pop video.
Blackpool's latest and most unusual tourist attraction has been picked as the location for the filming of a video by up-and-coming German band Fotos to accompany their single Explosion.

It was chosen as a set by director Uwe Flade, who had seen the wreck on various websites, and filming took place on the beach at Cleveleys yesterday.

Matt Cummins, producer from London-based production company Draw Pictures, said: " The director thought Riverdance would make a good, interesting backdrop.

"The band loved it, so we made some calls to the Blackpool tourist board and they were really helpful."

Mike Chadwick, from Blackpool Tourism, said: "Blackpool has been the setting for several pop videos over the years, including Simply Red and Robbie Williams.

"It just shows as well how famous Riverdance has become – making it into the world of pop."

A spokesman for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said there was no progress on cutting up Riverdance –which was due to start this week.

What will the Gazette do to fill it's pages when at last the wreck is removed?

Amazing how Blackpool manage to show interest when there is chance of publicity! even the wreck of the Riverdance, which for geographical correctness is in CLEVELEYS...but gets more action and removal of the 400 metre ban for some German band, no doubt Blackpool Council collected the fee ?

For the sake of the residents in this area, is it not about time to remove this stupid exclusion clause, return Cleveleys to the people and open the roads once again ?

This really has been the farce of all farces....sadly it appears to be one rule for them and another one for us.... get the roads open before Summer comes please !

So a wrecked ship is the background to the new single 'Explosion'? All done in the best (crosses legs theatrically) POSSIBLE taste! Well done Blackpool!

The truth is the Riverdance is 200 to 300 metres north of the Wyre/Blackpool boundary. It is in Anchorsholme Ward Blackpool. I was a Councillor for Anchorsholme, but if you want to write it a letter, it is in the FY5 Thornton Cleveleys postcode area.

It certainly has been a massive visitor attraction, I would expect the total attracted by the time the last bits are removed to be over 100,000 people.

My former constituents living nearby must be sick to the back teeth of all the disruption it has caused them.

I'd like to re-iterate the points above that the wreck is surely within the boundries of Wyre BC and nothing to do with Blackpool Council!
