A NEW brochure has been launched to entice tourists to Fylde.
The magazine, which will be available in tourist information centres, has been produced by Fylde Council to try and bring more visitors to the area.

The brochure is packed with inspirational views of the countryside, all the best places to eat out and do a spot of shopping and the rest of all the best bits the Fylde has to offer.

Beautiful

Coun Simon Renwick, cabinet member for culture and tourism, said: "This information guide really sets the scene for people visiting the Fylde and allows them to imagine walks on the beach or rambles through our beautiful countryside.

"It is difficult to imagine people not wanting to come to the area after reading this brochure and I would say that residents may also discover something new and impressive about the beautiful place they live."

Can't be more than a half a page of A4 - based on what we've heard so far, there won't be much left open for visitors to see or do - no swimming pools, Fairhaven Lake closed......

Still - at least Cleveleys has Riverdance from Ireland!

Well lets hope there are information centres to display it in since we know there won't be one in Lytham anymore.

I've read these comments with interest. The holiday guide is a publication we produce every year and is sent out to people who request a copy as a response to the marketing campaign. On an average year we send out 70,000 copies. The cost of the holiday guide is borne by the advertiser in the holiday guide.

Fylde currently has a Tourist information centre. This is distinct to the County Information Centre, which is being shut by the Labour Party at Lancashire County Council.

With regards to the content of guide, there is far more to the Fylde than Fairhaven and Lowther. There is the beach, the dunes, the countryside, the quality shopping and eating and of course the golf. There is the atmosphere and the gentle country walks. However, having said that Lowther and Fairhaven both serve a purpose and as such need to be looked after.

The article many refer to as the 'Hit List' has written by Councillor John Coombes to illustrates the appalling situation that the Government has put us in. They have cut funding significantly, they have told us to do more stuff and not paid for it and then have told us that we can't raise the tax we need to pay for the services and facilities that local people expect. Increasing tax this year by 10% would raise an additional £450,000 which would significantly improve the hole in the councils finances put there by Gordon Brown. Don't forget when you pay your council tax only 12% goes to Fylde You pay £5 a week to Fylde to do all that we do do and we struggle to make ends meet.

And finally, the last comment refers to Blackpool, not Fylde so I take no blame for that!

Simon Renwick.

I agree Coun Renwick this Government offers virtually no funding to the North West outside of Manchester. Under Labour it is rare for anywhere outisde of London to recieve funding in large amounts. It is about time they invested billions into Lancashire and not London and the Home Counties as always.
