JOBS are set to be axed at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
Fun park bosses today admitted departments within the top tourist attraction will be restructured to "improve operational efficiency".

Workers have contacted The Gazette to say 20 positions will go.

They have also claimed several rides could be forced to close.

A Pleasure Beach spokesman said: "In the present economic climate, it is essential the business operates in the most efficient way to meet the needs of our customers.

"Sadly there may be some job losses, but the consultation process will hopefully identify opportunities for some staff to transfer to other positions within the business."

One employee, who has been told his job is on the line, claims 20 positions have been axed from the park operations department and the casino, leaving only four positions in their place.

The employee, who did not wish to be named, also claims shows, including Forbidden, and a number of rides are under threat.

Bosses have already confirmed Hot Ice has been shelved this year while extensive renovation work is carried out.

Well what a surprise. Pleasure Beach bosses choose one of the worst financial climates in modern memory to implement an admission charge to walk around and look at the rides and now this. Is it not obvious that at times like these you want to encourage people to your attraction not price them away. It costs a fortune for a family to stay in Blackpool as i know to my cost. You get no guarentee of good weather and the place itself is a sad tatty parody of what it once was. Hoteliers, attraction owners, food outlets etc need to look at how expensive they make even a day out and those charged with the attempted regeneration need to find ways of dragging the town into the 21st century. The warning bells are ringing people, ignore them at your peril.

Weird they announce this when they are advertising a jobs fair on the 20th (I think its the 20th). I'm sure it would be easier to keep the staff they have instead of having to train others.

BPB are making a fortune year in and year out - probably the only company in the UK making a profit even through tough times.

I am disgusted that not only BPB, but other Companies throughout the UK are blaming the economic downturn for redundancies just to save costs.

I think the government should penalise companies that make huge profits, with fines and they should not be allowed to make people redundant - This is an Outrage - but the big boys like BPB and even Barclays are getting away with ruining peoples lives

I think the_saint couldn't be more wrong about the Pleasure Beach's finances. Other commentors seem to have hit the nail on the head. Getting rid of staff with full time jobs, employment rights and replacing them with part-timers on temporary contracts.

Skagerrak...underpaid Polska workers? They get the same rate of pay as the other temporary staff, minimum, so every worker on the Pleasure Beach is underpaid. Amanda is the only one who profits from hiring the Polish as she gets a percentage from the Polish government for hiring them.

R. Umourmonger - Spot on there , but dont let things like facts get in the way of people having a good moan about something they know nothing about.

Also Mystic John, "You get no guarentee of good weather and the place itself is a sad tatty parody of what it once was" So do you choose to ignore all the development going on or would that not suit ?
