A WITNESS has described the terrifying moment a driver ploughed across a shop car park and smashed through a garden wall.
The incident happened at Tesco Express on Kilnhouse Lane, St Annes, at just after 12.30pm yesterday.

Witnesses described a man driving a gold Vauxhall Astra come out of the Shell petrol station next to the row of shops and "shoot" the wrong way across the one-way forecourt and car park before smashing through a wall and into the garden of a home next to the store.

Davey Coulter, 66, of nearby Cromer Road, said: "It's lucky nobody was killed."

HORROR CRASH!! Unless the journalist has missed out a rather important detail noone was injured. What makes it horrific?
"Car damaged in unusual circumstances" would be more like it.

"Horror" as an adjective is one of these peculiar expressions that only seem to be used by local newspaper reporters. Others include "chilling", and "bid" (to describe someone asking for something). Perhaps the corniest of all, is "mercy men" to describe paramedics - they are in fact paid professionals and can be prosecuted for negligence if they fail in some way. No discussion of local newspaper journalism would be complete without a mention of another altruistic profession, namely the noble and brave "solider".

Anyway, I digress. I was down Kilnhouse Lane earlier and had a quick look at the damage. It would appear that the driver at least had enough presence of mind to keep steer his car away from the main road. He's probably wishing he didn't choose the super unleaded.

We have a resident troll deleter in our midst that gets their kicks from any comments that are regarding him (sorry I meant It), however insulting. In future, please do not mention It, and It will not get any satisfaction from seeing other people rise to the occasion.

I was behind this elderly gent and he pulled into the petrol station at snails pace. So when I came out from paying for fuel and his car shot off at speed it seemed suspicious and then I noticed his leg dangling out the door and realised he wasnt in control.

It was an automatic yes.
