TRAVELLERS who have set up home on a Poulton field have been given a postcode.
More than 70 travellers have applied for planning permission to stay on fields off Fairfield Road.

An injunction banning additional caravans being brought onto the site has already been imposed.

But Fylde Council has now handed those living at the site a postcode, meaning they can apply for utilities.

A Fylde Council spokesman said: "The judge at the injunction hearing ordered Fylde Council to provide the travellers with a postcode.

"Fylde argued at having to do so.

"The travellers argued it was essential for emergency services, the judge agreed and ordered Fylde to "undertake their best endeavours" to get a postcode for the travellers from Royal Mail.

"This does not prejudice the planning application, it does not give the application any special rights and it will be progressed normally."

But members of Singleton Parish Council say they are "strongly objecting" to the travellers' proposal to install utility buildings, cesspools, fencing and hardstandings.

And Singleton councillor Maxine Chew said: "Residents were upset when I spoke to them about the fact the travellers had been given a postcode as there is no planning permission at the site.

Why do they need to apply for utilities if they have no planning to reside there?
Sounds like a done deal to me, get used to it residents!

This does sound like a done deal and the travellers will be allowed to stay. Because benefitting from breaking the law applies if you are a traveller and doesn't if you are not. Why do we put up with some groups being given special treatment to do what the heck they like at the expense of the rest of us? Why didn't Fylde Council put the wishes of their residents as their top priority. There are lots of things they haven't managed to do but they did manage to create a separate legal plot by allocating a postcode. Fylde were asked for their best endeavours - hardly ordered to make it their number one priority. But since when did Fylde care about the taxpayers that fund them? We still have the issue of them trying to find somewhere for a homeless hostel that houses more people than we have applicants. Far easier to follow a completely different agenda of their own and blame outside authorities.

Well done Council - you have given in and handed this lot the 'golden' ticket...... what an earth do honest hard working people pay their taxes for? They may as well have done with it and build some high rise flats there as well!

I realy feel sorry for the residents around there, it must be hell! the issue geezer has pointed out is 'benefits' and I think he has hit the nail on the head.

The first thing I thought of when I read the headline was benefits - nothing to do with needing utilities at all. If they are 'travellers' they should travel and not need utilities. This is the biggest 'joke' I have heard of / read in ages. The only people that are suffering because of this lot are GOOD, HONEST, HARDWORKING people of Hardhorn and surrounding area.

Does this give the travellers the right to vote now they have a permanent residental address and postcode? Maybe have their own representive elected onto the local council?

I feel sorry for the local residents (the original residents that is) selling their property will be severely restricted now, would you buy a house nearby?

All the things we are discussing have not even been considered by the council - or at least that is how it seems. As long as they keep the travellers happy thats all that matters. As long as they can have their utilities, their benefits etc thats ok. All money earned is cash in hand and so no they don't pay for ANY services such as policing or NHS, as i said before A JOKE. IT makes me SOOOO ANGRY, and I don't even live too close so I really feel for the Hardhron residents.

PS - If anyone is getting their paving / driveway done PLEASE make sure it is a legitimate local firm, even if its costs more....stop some of their tax free income!!
