BOSSES of a top Blackpool attraction have accused the BBC of closing it down.
The Doctor Who Exhibition will shut on November 8 after five years of pulling in the tourists on the Prom.

Thousands of science fiction fans have visited the Golden Mile attraction over the past few years as TV's famed Time Lord adopted Blackpool as his seaside retreat.

But it will close after the BBC, which makes the cult show, have called for its original artifacts back.

Costumes and characters from the show – including Cybermen, Daleks and the Doctor's clothes – will now be used as part of a touring exhibition for its other Doctor Who sites in Cardiff and London.

David Boyle, manager of the Blackpool Doctor Who exhibition, said: "It's disappointing because it has brought a lot of people from around the world to Blackpool to see what we have.

"The BBC say they want their exhibits back to move them around the UK.

"In essence they have closed us down and deprived Blackpool of even more visitors by their tactics.

"The museum is always very busy with thousands of people passing through every month. It will be a major blow to remove the museum from the resort as it is so popular."

The exhibition opened in 2004 next to the SeaLife Centre for its second stint in Blackpool after being here in the 1980s.

Mr Boyle says five people will lose their jobs as a result of it closing.

He also runs a conspiracy exhibition as well as the Exhibition of the Universe on Chapel Street. Mr Boyle added: "It's very sad the BBC has taken this decision.

"A large amount of my own money has gone into this venture but I plan to carry on with my other projects."

The BBC has confirmed the exhibition will close on November 8.

Martin Wilkey, from Experience Design Ltd, who carried out the exhibition on behalf of the BBC said he is not ruling out bringing back the museum to Blackpool in the future.

He added: "The decision to close down the Doctor Who exhibition has nothing to do with Blackpool itself. We have been very happy with the running of the museum, but we have other plans for the collection.

"They will be used in the other museums across the UK but we are not ruling out it coming back to the resort.

"I can appreciate David is disappointed and it's a sad day for Blackpool and this has been a very difficult decision for the BBC to make."

Zimflyer, would that be the London that Nick Griffin refered to as not being British any more?

Shame on the BBC, once again they think they have the power to do as they please. Okay so they take all their artifacts down to London and Cardiff. What about the people who can not afford to travel to London and Cardiff.
Blackpool is sturggling as it is, so why take something away that is a hit with the tourists. Surely common sense would have told them that Blackpool needs all the support it can get from everybody, icluding the BBC.
Let us hope they change their mind for the people of Blackpool.

Exactly The Spy, just watch the national news, it covers more about Africa and the US rather than news in places like Blackpool and other towns in the UK. To miss quote the Smiths, the BBC doesn't say anything about my life.

Perhaps the BBC may next prefer to cover the switch-on of the Oxford Street Christmas lights in favour of our illuminations?

I have to agree with all that is said here about the BBC it should be the LBC (London Broadcasting company) They seem to forget there is a whole country beyond London! Blackpool actually comes out better on the BBC than most other places in the North, the only time their cameras venture this far normally is when the police arrest someone for terrorism!
