MYSTERY surrounds the closure of a Fylde coast solicitors' office with no warning to clients.
Customers turned up at the offices of John Gibbs and Co in Brighton Avenue, Cleveleys, earlier this week to find the doors locked and a notice posted asking them to contact solicitors in Manchester.

The sudden closure has caused panic among some c
lients, worried about personal documents held by the firm.

Blanche Cunliffe, 82, from Anchorsholme, is one of those who has been trying to contact the firm.

She said: "It's a disgrace.

"There was no warning.

"I found out from a handyman who does work for me about the company.

"I've tried ringing the number given, but it just goes to a machine.

"My deeds are with John Gibbs, so is my will.

"I'm worried about those documents.

"What is happening to them.

"It is no good having solicitors in Manchester.

"I'm in my 80s, it is too far to go."

Dave Molloy of Westbourne Road, Cleveleys, is another worried client.

He said: "I've been down to the offices.

"There were a few people there.

"Everyone is worried.

"There was nothing to suggest this was going to happen.

"I have my deeds and will with the firm.

"I had taken them out and given them to the building society, but a few weeks ago gave them back to the solicitors.

"Nobody said anything about closing.

"If I had any idea something like this was going to happen, I wouldn't have done it.

"You ring the number they have given and there is nobody there."

The Gazette tried to call John Gibbs and Co offices in Cleveleys and Blackpool but was unable to contact anyone from the firm. It is understood Manchester law firm Laytons Solicitors is dealing with John Gibbs and Co clients.Nobody from the firm was available for comment.

Really? That happened? Did you try reading the notice on their door? The one that says contact solicitors in Manchester? I'd imagine that might help.

The law soc.has provided alternative help for clients.so i am not concerned with the fact my deeds were there. I am more concerned for Lynn and the great team at that office!! Things do go wrong in business,I really hope all is ok. having been a client for years i have always had a first class service and just hope the practice does re-open.

If you ring the firm in Manchester you just get the answering machine. The message however refers to the "intervention" of several firms. It's all very confusing. When I eventually got through they told me they weren't sure yet whether or not they had my documents and would be writing to people in due course. It's ridiculous having a firm in Manchester dealing with this. Especially as they are so unhelpful!

If it helps anyone else I found out the person in charge of the firm in Manchester is Stewart Farr. He is the one to speak to. I must warn you though that he's not the friendliest of chaps!

I spoke with somebody from the firm in Manchester today and she was very helpful.

John Gibbs were acting on a conveyencing matter for me the week she disappeared. It was a very stressful time!

I eventually realised that they had gone AWOL and had to appoint a new solicitor.

However, I am owed money by the firm for disbursements that I paid them, and have been told this morning that it could take a while before I get it back!

Anyone who is owed money, needs to contact the following number, 01926 487015 and say that you are calling regarding John Gibbs intervention.

They will put a claim form in the post to you apparently. But I expect they won't release it until they have earned enough interest off it!

Thank you to the staff at John Gibbs, who were powerless to do anything to stop this occurring. It was very stressful for them also.

I have posted this on the other link also, just incase it helps anybody.
