BOSSES of new Tower operators Merlin today waxed lyrical about the transformation of one of Blackpool's biggest attractions.
And it is out with the old and in with the new for Louis Tussauds as it prepares for a multi-million pound makeover.

The Golden Mile tourism hotspot will go under the name of Madame Tussauds with models costing £150,000 a-piece taking centre stage.

It will be the 12th Madame Tussauds in the world carrying the iconic brand name following on from others in London, New York, Las Vegas, Hong Kong and Amsterdam.

Current operators Leisure Parcs are move aside later this year as Merlin begins its transformation of The Tower and SeaLife Centre.

Work has already started on the new wax figures – although bosses are keeping their identities a closely guarded secret – and they will be based on top TV and movie stars.

But Merlin boss Iain Hawkins said the new-look for the attraction will include some of the old favourites from Louis Tussauds.

He said: "Tussauds will have a completely new look with new dolls and new attractions.

"Some of the models will be retained but anyone who has been to Louis Tussauds will see a huge difference.

"Leisure Parcs have had a very successful time in charge of the attraction and they have brought in may thousands of people. I would like to take it a step forward and like the other Madame Tussauds attractions, add an extra dimension to the experience.

"We have to bring in new models and these are already being worked on."

The Merlin PR dept. seem to be really "cranking up the juice".
In the meantine, an ominous silence from the Pleasure Beach Bandits at Wristband Central.....

I hope Merlin can weave it's 'magic' and bring back
the 'family fun' factor back to Blackpool.

Blackpool tourist attractions have needed a serious
re-vamp for years and hopefully Merlin can deliver,

The(Hotels,Shops)etc,along the promenade also need
'sprucing' up to improve the image of Blackpool.

Simple fact;

Shops and property on the prom and second line are constantly exposed to sea air and salt.

Unless they re given a "lick of paint" at the start of every season, they look to the uneducated eye, like they have not been touched for three or four years.

Leave them for three or four (as many traders have) and they look like they have been neglected for a decade.

The Council should institute a bt-law that requires a cosmetic "touch up" before every Easter.

Couldn't agree more BlackpoolRockSeller.... And the colour should be neutral too.... magnolia or white... get rid of all the tacky colours down the prom.... Keep the colour for the Balamory houses by the football ground !!

Spot on, BlackpoolRockSeller. Makes sense.

Re this project, if Merlin can get the attraction up to the standard of the London Tussauds that would be a real boost. Pity they cannot fit a Planetarium in.

If Blackpool Police stopped visitors and locals walking down the Prom drinking from glasses and urinating on the Pavement maybe Hotels would put the effort into cleaning their property up.

# 8 bph1,

True, we was in Blackpool last week for a few days,
and the tram shelters along the prom was not fit to
use, because they had been used as public toilets.

I think it will be a golden mile again in a few years. Waxworks revamp is needed great indoor venue to visit if it starts raining!. I think a 'lego land' attraction would be perfect for Blackpool.
